Once there was an old king who knew it was time to choose his successor (继 任者）.He had many sons and didn't know which one was right to be the king after him. He decided to do something different.
He gave all his sons a seed (种子)and said,"It is a very special seed. I want you to come back here with what you have grown one year later."
The youngest son,named Ling, went home and excitedly told his teacher the whole story. The old teacher helped him get a pot(花盆)and'they planted the seed care— fully.Every day Ling would water it and watch to see if it had grown.
Six months later,the other sons began to talk about their trees and flowers. But nothing ever grew in Ling's pot.
A year finally went by quickly and all Ling's brothers brought their plants
