城市的环境-The Surroundings in Cities
We have to admit that, comparatively speaking, our cities are not so clean and green as those in the developed countries.
There are not adequate trees, lawns and flower-beds in such big cities as Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai. We should make our cities greener by planting more trees, grass and flowers. A green environment can bring us pleasure, beauty and fresh air. Trees, lawns and flowers will make our cities more pleasing to both the eye and the mind, improve the weather conditions and provide fresh air, all of which will no doubt do us a lot of good.
I suggest that the whole city go all out every spring to plant new trees, build new lawns in and around the city, and everyone should take care of and protect the trees, lawns and flowers, and educate the children to love them. Then year after year, our cities will become greener, more beautiful and livable.

Water is used in homes, in farming, and in manufacturing. The water used by the people comes from oceans, lakes, rivers, and streams. Many water sources are becoming polluted.
People are throwing things into the water. Factories are dumping waste materials into the water. Cities are dumping sewage into the water. Some water sources have become so badly polluted that the water cannot be made fit to use.
Would you like to drink water that came from a source that had been so badly mistreated? Now is the time that we should take up our responsibility to protect our environment from being polluted.

Reduce Waste on Campus(减少校园污染)
As is known to all, waste on campus has become a more and more serious problem. We can easily see many students dump a lot of food in the garbage can. Some students spend thousands of yuan buying fashionable clothes and so on.
The negative effects of waste can be shown in the following aspects. In the first place, it makes some students dependent on their parents for money, which is harmful to their development.
If they don’t learn to support themselves, they will be “useless people” when they graduate. In the second place, it is not easy for our parents to arrange for our schooling. Last but not the least important, there is no denying the fact that our country is still poor. There are many people who cannot go to university and many poor people still need our help.
As far as I am concerned, I should set a good example to reduce waste on campus. First of all, I will refrain from wasting anything, from food to stationery. What’s more, I’m determined to call on more schoolmates to fight against waste. Only through these measures can we hope to reduce waste on campus.
Water Is the Source of Life(水是生命之源)
As the source of life, water is indispensable to human beings. People consume much water in production and daily life. Agriculture and industry account for most of mankind's water usage. Without adequate water supplies, human future is threatened.
Nowadays water shortages touch a large percentage of world population. According to one UN study in 1999, nearly one in five people lack safe and clean water. Water elated diseases in some areas are killing people. Population explosion and water pollution make water crisis increasingly urgent. Water related problems are likely to worsen in the foreseeable future.
The situation is really alarming. Therefore, immediate and effective measures must be taken to protect and exploit water resources. Remember; where there is water, there is life. If we could not make proper use of water resources on earth, the last drop of water would be our teardrop.
The Water Cycle(水的循环)
Water can change from one form to another. The heat of the sun evaporates water from the oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. The heat also evaporates water from the ground and from plants and animals. Water vapour is formed. This forms clouds in the air.
When the clouds come near a mountain, they are forced to rise. As the clouds rise, they are cooled. The higher they rise, the more they are cooled. This causes more and more water vapour to condense. In this way, the tiny drops of water in the clouds get bigger and bigger until they are heavy enough to fall to the earth as rain.
Some rain water which falls on the earth is again evaporated. Some of it sinks into the ground. It may be used up by thirsty plants. It may reach a well or a spring. Most of the water goes back to the rivers, seas and oceans. This process then starts all over again. This process is called the water cycle.
Reuse the Wastes(废物利用)
