平时作文中，我们常常自卑于自己的语言——平实有余而生动形象不足；阅读中，我们也往往羡慕别人的语言——那些作家的语言总是能让我们触摸到形象，感受到亲情、温情，品味到酸甜苦辣，体验到真善美、假恶丑……产生这些感觉的原因是什么呢？一个重要的原因，那就是我们的语言不够美，不够“靓”。要想让作文语言“靓”起来，我们不妨从以下几个方面运用一些写作技巧进行尝试。恰当地运用一些修辞手法。修辞是指依据题旨情境，运用各种语文材料，各种表现手法，恰当地表现写作者所要表达的内容的活动。它的运用不但使文章语言生动活泼，而且能调节音节，增强语言的音乐美，增强语言的说服力和感染力，提高语言的表达效果。
例如：“春天的脚步近了”一句，意思是说“春天快要到了”。但是作者使用了拟人的手法，把春天当作美丽的小姑娘，迈着轻盈的步伐向我们走来，这样一说比“春天快要到了”更能表现出春天的可爱和多情。
再如：“淡黑的起伏的连山，仿佛是踊跃的铁的兽脊似的”一句，作者运用比喻的手法，写出了远处山峰的起伏连绵、高低不平而又具有动态的特征，语言生动形象，富有表现力。
又如：《谁是最可爱的人》中的“亲爱的朋友们，当你坐上早晨第一列电车驰向工厂的时候，当你扛上犁耙走向田野的时候，当你喝完一杯豆浆、提着书包走向学校的时候，当你坐到办公桌前开始这一天工作的时候，当你往孩子口里塞苹果的时候，当你和爱人一起散步的时候……朋友，你是否意识到你是在幸福之中呢？”一句，作者运用排比的手法，描写人们平凡而又幸福的日常生活，提醒人们必须认识到并珍惜这些幸福，只有这样，才能理解志愿军战士在朝鲜的战斗和生活。此处的排比句的使用，不但句式整齐，使文字具备了节奏的美感，同时又方便了感情的抒发，一举多得。
当然，修辞手法的运用要以语言环境的需要为原则。写作中的修辞手法还很多，像对偶、夸张、反问、设问等等，如果能恰当地运用，一定能使作文的语言活起来。
准确地运用一连串的动词或形容词，会使你的作文中的形象美起来、凸现出来，使文字具有音乐美。
鲁迅先生在《从百草园到三味书屋》中描写雪地捕鸟是这样写的：“扫开一块雪，露出地面，用一支短棒支起一面大的竹筛来，下面撒些秕谷，棒上系一条长绳，人远远地牵着，看鸟雀下来啄食，走到筛子底下的时候，将绳子一拉，便罩住了。”其中运用了这样一系列动词：扫开、露出、支起、撒、系、牵、看、拉、罩，细致地描写了雪地捕鸟时的各种不同的动作，准确生动而有层次地描绘出了捕鸟的全过程，写出了儿童捕鸟时的惊喜和兴奋。
再看《松鼠》一文中的一段文字：它们面容清秀，眼睛闪闪有光，身体矫健，四肢轻快，非常敏捷，非常机警。布丰在介绍松鼠的时候，运用了“清秀”、“闪闪有光 ”、“矫健”、“轻快”四个形容词，分别描写“面容”、“眼睛”、“身体”、“四肢”，准确地描写了松鼠的外部特征，使松鼠的形象栩栩如生，跃然纸上。
叠词的使用，不仅能使描绘说明更加准确，而且能使语言具有节奏感，从而让语言富有音乐美。如朱自清的《春》中的“微微”、“渐渐”、“软绵绵”、“轻悄悄”、“稀稀疏梳”，冰心的《小橘灯》中的“仄仄”、“轻轻”、“微微”、“慢慢”、“渐渐 ”等等，都是极好的例子。
注意句式的变化和多样化。如《大豆摇铃曲》中“车老板儿稳稳地、悠悠地站在车上，由它颠，由它晃，鞭子在空中一颤颤，猛地又抖出一个漂亮的狐形”，按着长句—短句—长句的格式，表现出北大荒人民在大丰收时的喜悦，行文上有了节奏感。
在作文中还可以使用一系列的同义词、近义词或反义词，使得语言富有变化；注意词语感情色彩的变化，使得作文语言的感情明确。
以上只是在写作文过程中的一些语言运用的技巧。而真正提高语言运用能力，除了技巧外，根本的还得注意平时的观察思考，学习积累，写作运用。
