( A )
Should doctors ever lie to speed recovery? What should doctors say, for example, to a 46-year-old man coming for a physical examination just before going on vacation with his family who, thought he feels in good health, is found to have a form of cancer that will cause him to die within six months? If he asks, should the doctor say he isn’t ill or say he is only slightly ill without a danger of death?
Most doctors believe that the seriously ill do not want to know the truth about their conditions and that they lie for the patients’ own good. They follow the belief: ―We do no harm to the patients as far as possible by telling lies.‖
However, studies show most patients do want to be told truth, though very seriously ill. We are also learning that the truthful information helps patients fight against illness, even recover faster. If they get the untruthful information about their condition, they may even make a wrong decision that they don’t need treatment at all.
The patients and their relatives are more and more unsatisfied with the doctors’ lies. And the increasing doubts and the questions to doctors have appeared. Neither in medicine, nor in law, government or the social science can there be comfort in the old saying, ―What you don’t know can’t hurt you.‖
36. In the writer’s opinion, for doctors it’s right to ________.
A. let out to everyone the truth about the patients
B. tell the sick the truth to help them recover quickly
C. comfort the patients by telling lies
D. tell lies only for the patients’ own goodwww.shanpow.com_

A. they lie for no reason
B. everyone doesn’t want to know the truth

A. we should ―Call a spade a spade
B. ―What you don’t know can’t hurt you‖
C. ―Practice makes perfect‖
D. ―Where there is a will, there is a way‖
39. Facing a dying patient over 80, if you are a doctor, after examining him, what should
you say to him?
A. ―You are slightly ill. Take it easy.‖
B. ―You are dying. Go back home.‖
C. ―No problem at all. Have a rest.‖

WHY NOT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

THIS….. AND THIS
This summer, join the International Conservation (环境保护)Scouts on a fun-filled holiday with a difference. Year after year, young people from all around the world get together at one of our sixteen conservation camps. Their shared aim is to help protect the countryside and its wildlife.
Many animals and plants are in danger of disappearing forever. The dormouse, a kind of mouse, for example, needs woodland plants for food and trees to stay in. Its habitat is being destroyed by man and it needs our help to survive.
On a conservation camp holiday, you’ll learn all about nature and how to protect it. Our trained leaders will accompany you and tell you everything you need to know. Because of this you don’t need any experience, just energy and enthusiasm. You will explore the countryside and work to ensure the survival of hundreds of animals and plants and still have plenty of time to enjoy the camp’s excellent sport games and organized nature paths through beautiful scenery.
The International Conservation Scouts is a world-wide organization, so there must be a camp near you. You can spend a splendid holiday at any of the camps for as little as £60, including accommodation and food.

There are three separate sources of danger in supplying energy by nuclear power.
First, the radioactive material must travel from its place of production to the power station. Although the power stations themselves are strongly built, the containers used for the transport of the materials are not. Normally, only two methods of transport are in use, namely road or rail. Unfortunately, both of these may have an effect on the general public, since they are sure to pass near, or even through, heavily populated areas.
Second, there is a problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most cases will remain radioactive for thousands of years. It is impossible to make these wastes non-radioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. For example, they may be buried under the ground, or dropped into deserted mines, or sunk in the sea. However, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily break the containers.
Third, there may occur the danger of a leak(泄漏) or an explosion at the power station. As with the other two dangers, this is not very likely, so it does not provide a serious
