Außenamtssprecherin Jiang Yu wollte sich jedoch nicht direkt zu der Frage äussern, ob die Sperrungen im Zusammenhang mit der Vergabe des Nobelpreises an Liu Xiaobo am Freitag in Oslo stünden. "Mir sind Probleme mit diesen Webseiten nicht bekannt", sagte sie. Das chinesische Internet sei offen und werde entsprechend der Gesetze des Landes verwaltet. Diese regelten, welche Informationen nicht übers Internet verbreitet werden dürften.

Die Aussenamtssprecherin erneuerte die Kritik der Regierung, die Entscheidung des Osloer Komitees sei eine Einmischung in die inneren Angelegenheiten des Landes. Ihr Telefon wie auch ihre Internetverbindung sind gekappt. Niemand von Lius Familie darf nach Oslo reisen – daher kann auch niemand den Preis in Empfang nehmen.

Doch auch viele andere Stühle bleiben in Oslo leer. Über 140 Aktivisten, Künstler, Anwälte und Intellektuelle hatte Liu Xia zur Feier einladen wollen. Doch trotz der Repressalien werten die meisten Aktivisten den Preis immer noch als Ermutigung und Symbol der Hoffnung. Zum Beispiel die Umweltaktivistin und Autorin Dai Qing.
